Genre: Friends to Lovers Romance

About the book
Introducing book 1 in the new Checkmate Duet Series from a secret duo of bestselling authors! This friends to lovers romance will have you swooning and laughing from the first to the last page! Are you ready to play the game?
Drew Fisher is the type of guy every girl wants.
Noble police officer by day, charming prince by night.
He has no idea the effect he has on women, especially me—his little sister’s best friend.
I’m the blonde Southern belle who lives up to the cliché, except I have my own quirks. I’m smart as a whip, can change my own oil, and recite The Pledge of Allegiance backward, but he doesn’t see that girl.
It’d be easier to forget him if he wasn’t my roommate and if the first thing I saw in the morning wasn't his shirtless body covered in tattoos. I’ve crushed on him since the day we met, but he’s made it perfectly clear where we stand. Just friends.
I know I need to move on and accept that his feelings will never be mutual, but every day he smiles at me, I’m left dreaming of what if.
He has girl issues, and I’ve got a crush I can’t deny.
We’re friends, but I want more.
One drunken hookup leaves us with much more than a platonic friendship. Pretending it never happened proves to be more difficult than anticipated.
A crazy ex-girlfriend, a dangerous war of stolen glances, and passionate kisses leads to the most reckless battle yet. I won’t be a pawn in his game, but I’ll play by his rules if it will show him I’m the one worth breaking them for.
Checkmate, Prince Charming.
*Recommend for ages 18+ due to sexual content and adult language.*
**This is book 1 of 2 in the Checkmate Duet Series--a friends to lovers romance. Highly recommended to read the Checkmate Duet, This is War and This is Love first, but not necessary. This can read as a standalone duet.*

Like who really doesn’t like a friend turn into lover’s story. I know for sure that I do especially when they’re full of angst. Without a doubt that’s what Kennedy ox has given to me for the third time, a love story that is more than swoon worthy.Viola’s brother Drew and her best friend Courtney have now become roommates since she has Travis have started a life of their own. I adore the relationship everyone has and the closeness too.

When I first learned Courtney was moving in with Drew I just knew she was a fan of torture especially since Drew can not seem to get over Mia (she’s a nobody and everyone hates her.) Not sure why he can seem to understand that not only does Courtney have his best interest, but she's highly intelligent and down to earth. Not many can pull all of those qualities off.

I love how the relationship progressed between these two.The pace had a nice slow burn to it that leaves you wanting more.

The one downfall for me was that this story didn’t feel completely Drew's and Courtney’s not to say that Viola and Travis was to disappear, but it felt like their world didn’t felt separate. Maybe I’m over thinking that. IDK

Over this face paced love affair had this right mixture of emotions that kept me up late and not wanting to put my kindle down. Sadly like all books this one came to an end faster than I wanted, now I’m left waiting and wanting the second part of Drew and Courtney’s story. Time can be a cruel game

Devon Hartford's I Were Beautiful Tour

If I Were Beautiful by Devon Hartford

Publication date: January 23rd 2017
Series (If I Were…, #1)
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

About the Book

Is life better when you’re beautiful?

Jane Johnson has tried every beauty tip and trick known to woman, but none of them have ever made men notice her.

Until now.

Finally, something is working. She barely recognizes herself in the mirror. Is it her new haircut? Two years of yoga class? Her new eyebrow tweeze? Or is it all that nasty wheat grass juice her sister insisted she drink finally working some kind of magic? Whatever it is, something is transforming Jane from plain to downright beautiful.

For the first time in her life, men are noticing her.

Constantly.

Jane is getting so much attention from men she doesn’t know what to do with it.

Before her inexplicable transformation, she couldn’t get a date to save her life. Now she has a date every night of the week. Gorgeous eligible men are throwing themselves at her. They’re even fighting over her. Actual fist fights to win her affection.

It all seems too good to be true.

The only question on Jane’s mind is whether or not her newfound beauty is going to last or if it’s some cruel trick of fate that will fade away as quickly as it appeared.

Because everybody knows, when something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

***If I Were Beautiful is a saucy romance with a mystical twist that will leave you breathless to find out what happens next. This is book one of a three book series. Book two will release April 2017, Book three, July 2017 (or sooner).

If I Were Beautiful gave me a few bouts of the feels and lots to think about. Why is being so beautiful so important to people? Does it really make your life easier? Does it cause extra pressure to stay beautiful?

I’m sure the average person I’m sure has went through that “ugly duckling” that usually comes around during middle school when acne attacks you and you’re still growing into your looks and body.During that time I myself probably felt like it was the end of the world, then woke up one morning to find all right in the world. As far as looks go.

Unfortunately for Jane Johnson life was not so kind. She never grew out of her “ugly duckling” phase . She feels invisible to the world. Wishing men would look at her like they look at her older sister, Chelsea.

I had mixed feeling about Jane’s character, she had this “whoa me”” attitude. Often time I felted she was overreacting to situation because she thought she was being mistreated due to her looks. I should mention a few of her complaints

She hates her glasses - What?! I love my glasses. I happen to think they have this sexy effect.
Her height 5’2 - I’m 5’5 short girls rule. So what I need a step stool every so often.
Pale skin - Go tanning

During one of her “I’m not pretty tantrums Jane finds herself at a stranger’s, Wes home in desperate need of water. After guilting him to assisting her, Jane is caught rifling through his belongings . She finds this ring that looks old and tarnished. After he gifts it to her, she wears it to bed and that’s when things take a turn.

Waking up with practically a new body, Jane finds that she is getting new attention as well. Her only problem she can prove she’s her. Will this new way of life become Jane’s new normal or will things go back to what they were? Can Jane find her happily ever after being beautiful.

If I Were Beautiful is my first experience with Devon Hartfield’s work and I absolutely enjoyed every page. I found myself not wanting to put my kindle down. Waiting for what happens next is going to be torture.

Release Blitz for Taking Turns by JA Huss

Taking Turns by JA Huss
Release Date: January 18, 2017
Series: Turning #1
Genre: Dark Erotic Suspense

Chella plays the game of Taking Turns with three men as she comes to terms with her sexuality.

I’ve never been afraid of the dark...but that doesn’t mean I wanted to live in it. And maybe everyone wants what they can’t have, but I should’ve thought it over before I accepted the key and unlocked the door to their forbidden world.

Number One is mostly silent. He watches me with them very carefully. His gaze never wanders. His interest never wanes.

Number Two is mostly gentle. But it’s the other side of him I like best. The wild side.

Number Three is mostly reserved. He refuses to cross the line. Even when I beg.

It was carnal, it was sensual, and it was erotic. That’s it. That’s all it was supposed to be. A trip into the dark. A peek into the forbidden.

I just didn’t expect to like them.

QUIN

“You want it hard tonight?” I ask. “You want me to fuck you hard?” I grab her hair and pull, making her upper body lift up off the mattress. My other hand is digging into the flesh just below her hip.

I scoot back and reach under her thighs, drawing them up so she’s on her knees, and press her face into the pillow as I pound her from behind.

“Yeah,” I say, half speaking, half moaning. “You like it like this, don’t you? You let Bric fuck you like this all the time, don’t you?”

I reach around and smack her tit, which makes her yelp. A high-pitched yelp I’m not familiar with. For a second I think I’ve hurt her, and I slow down. But she backs up into me, covering my dick again. Burying it deep inside her. Everything is already so wet. She feels so goddamned good tonight.

“You fucking whore,” I say, letting go of her hair so she falls face-first back into the pillow. “You let Bric fuck you like this, Rochelle? You like the way he slaps you around? Hmm?”

Hell, I like the way Bric slaps her around. And as soon as that thought enters my head I laugh.

“Maybe we’ll do it rough next weekend. You want that? You want us to fuck you hard? Stick our dicks inside you at the same time?”

Another unfamiliar moan.

“I’ll take that as a yes,” I say, still kinda laughing. But then I let it go and just… fuck her. I grab onto her ass and do it hard. Pounding her with so much force, her head is inching closer and closer to the headboard of the bed.

I don’t stop when it finally makes it there. I just keep thrusting until the pounding is compounded by the headboard crashing into the wall.

She’s moaning. Close. So fucking close to coming. I reach underneath her body and strum her clit to the rhythm we’re making. She goes wild. Wild like I’ve never seen her before. Writhing, and moaning, and gasping for air.

I draw back, grab her hips, and flip her over, one hand pushing her head aside so her cheek is pressing into the pillow, the other one still playing with her pussy. I watch my dick as it slips in and out, just barely able to make it out in the dim, filtered light from outside.

I grab her hair, so fucking ready to come, and yank her head so she has to look at me. Her eyes are closed, but I don’t care. I press my hand over her mouth and close my eyes too. And then I spill inside her. Throwing my head back to let out a groan of relief.

Her legs are trembling from the exertion. Little spasms as she gasps for breath. I laugh a little as I roll off to the side and wrap my arms around her. “What’s wrong, baby? Too much for you tonight?”

No answer.

I bury my head into her neck and smell her hair.

“Did you get a new shampoo?” I ask. “You smell so different.”

No answer.

“You want a date with Bric on Sunday? Hmm? We can skip Smith if you want.” I kiss her neck and then pull back and open my eyes. Trying to get an idea if she’s up for this kind of fun. It’s been a while so I—

I blink my eyes. Three times, fast.

“Rochelle—”

“I’m sorry,” she says. “I’m sorry—”

But I’m up and out of the bed, fisting her hair and pulling her with me. She drops to the floor, whimpering.

“I’m sorry,” she says again.

“Who the fuck are you?” I ask. “Where the fuck is Rochelle?”

“I’m sorry,” she says. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”

 Turning Back by JA Huss
Release Date: April 12, 2017
Series: Turning #2
Genre: Dark Erotic Suspense

I lived in the dark for three years. My whole world revolved around the whims and happiness of three men. It was just a trip into the forbidden. A way out of a bad situation and forward into nothingness.

Quin, with his easy smile and charming good looks. He was always there for me... Until he wasn’t.

Smith, and his dispassionate attention. He was never there for me and he never regretted it.

Bric, the one who listened, but only to himself. Self-absorbed, self-obsessed, and self-serving. He was never the one I wanted.

And now he might be the only one I have left.

It was good while it lasted, I guess. But it could’ve been so much more. It could’ve been so much better.

And that’s why I’m turning back.

Egomaniac by Vi Keeland - Release Day Blitz

Ego Maniac by Vi Keeland
Expected Release: Jan. 16, 2017

About the book

The night I met Drew Jagger, he’d just broken into my new Park Avenue office.
I dialed 9-1-1 before proceeding to attack him with my fancy new Krav Maga skills.
He quickly restrained me, then chuckled, finding my attempted assault amusing.

Of course, my intruder had to be arrogant.
Only, turned out, he wasn’t an intruder at all.

Drew was the rightful occupant of my new office. He’d been on vacation while his posh space was renovated.
Which was how a scammer got away with leasing me office space that wasn’t really available for rent.
I was swindled out of ten grand.

The next day, after hours at the police station, Drew took pity on me and made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. In exchange for answering his phones while his secretary was out, he’d let me stay until I found a new place.
I probably should have acted grateful and kept my mouth shut when I overheard the advice he was spewing to his clients. But I couldn’t help giving him a piece of my mind.
I never expected my body to react every time we argued. Especially when that was all we seemed to be able to do.

The two of us were complete opposites. Drew was a bitter, angry, gorgeous-as-all-hell, destroyer of relationships. And my job was to help people save their marriages.
The only thing the two of us had in common was the space we were sharing.
And an attraction that was getting harder to deny by the day.

I love Malika and Harper. They make me happy. They really do. But there’s something about being with them that makes me feel lonely too. I can never really be myself with them. I can’t really be myself with anybody. It’s ingrained in me to lie, to stick to the cover story and blend in no matter what. And I feel guilty about that. Because they think they know me so well. They think because they can finish my sentences they know everything about me. But they only know Reagan MacMillan; the quick-talking, tough girl I created. Sometimes I wonder which parts of my personality are really me and which ones belong to the pretender.
But with Luke, it’s different. There’s nothing forced or strategic about our friendship. He’s gotten to see glimpses of the real Reagan. And that scares the shit out of me. Because I know how quickly it could all be torn away from me. How quickly I could be torn away from him. There’s no such thing as a happy ending for a girl like me.
“Come on, Reagan,” Harper says quietly, glancing over her shoulder to make sure Luke is still out of earshot. “You guys are so cute together. He broke up with Hannah months ago. I don’t know what you’re waiting for. I can just tell by the way he looks at you he—”
“Harper,” I interrupt as her words compress my lungs, making each breath labored and painful. I don’t want to hear this. “He doesn’t look at me like anything. I don’t want to ruin our friendship.”
“You know some things are worth ruining,” Harper replies, reaching out to touch my arm with her fingertips, her nails painted darker than my gray cardigan. “You can’t tell me you haven’t at least thought of starting a relationship with him or maybe—”
“There is no relationship,” I cut her off again, pulling my arm away a little faster than I meant to. I snap new gloves onto my hands, pick up the scalpel, and slice into the frog’s heart. “Next stomach.”
“Next stomach?” Harper repeats, scrunching her forehead.
“Next subject.”

Desperate, impulsive and self-centered are just a few adjectives that comes to mind regarding Lilley / Carol Ann. Not completely convinced if the streets made her that way or it's just her nature. Reading No More Birthdays put me in the mind set of Pretty Little Liars, where I was thinking if you just tell the truth and stop doing things on impulse things could get better. If that was to happen, unfortunately there would not be a story.

Runaway teen, Lilly is a complete trainwreck. On the trail of someone for her past she lands in a no name town with only a few bucks to her name or a place to stay in hopes to collect what's she owed. Normally I'm firm believer that if you do the work you should get paid. Although there are situations that you should just walk away from. Her actions made me crazy. I wanted to scream “Stop! What are you doing?” I wish she would allow someone to either help her or somehow forcibly get help.

I’m not sure what caught my attention first the updated cover or the blurb, but I knew I had to give Lissa Pelzer writing a try. The story flowed smoothly and while sometimes annoyed I remained on edge until the last page. No more Birthdays is told solely from Lilly’s POV, which is normally not my thing. I’m convinced it worked for me because of all of the nonsense that was going on.

While the story doesn't necessarily leave you with a cliffhanger, which I'm rather pleased with. You are left with a “what just happened moment” and for that I will be in full attendance for the follow up Dead Memories
